The History of Cosmetics

Cosmetics have been around for quite some time and it is hard to date them back.  They have been  dated back from around 10000 BC

Ancient  Egyptians wore cosmetics, men and women. Black kohl was used on the eyes and Scented oils were rubbed into the skin.  Also some women wore eye shadow made out of crushed beetle wings and natural minerals.

In 1600 AD women started using lead dyes to get a paler look. This then was proved harmful to the skin and caused
disfigurements.

The influence of movie stars and celebrities encouraged more people to wear more cosmetics. Lipsticks became popular especially red colour. In the 1960’s lipsticks became popular in many colours such as pink and pale peach. And then in the 1980’s other colours such as blue, yellow orange green and purple.

Make up has changed greatly throughout the years.
