The effects of Cosmetics

Make up contains some good ingredients, some not so good and some potentially dangerous. Because make up is worn daily, so much is absorbed into the skin or inhaled. It may lead to something as severe as cancer.

Some mild effects may be allergic reactions. These may be itchiness, dry skin or a rash. It may not be that noticeable or it may be quite severe.

Acne. Certain make up gets clogged in the pores in the skin, happens more with liquid foundation than powder. Then is not washed away properly and therefore creates blackheads which will inflame, (small bacterial infection) People make it worse by putting more makeup over the spots which adds more dirt and oil. Acne is common in teenagers.

Cancer. There has been a dramatic increase inn 'natural' cosmetics products over the last number of years. There are still many make up brands that use potentially dangerous chemicals in their makeup that may lead to cancer. Chemicals  like amorphous hydrated silica have been shown to contain small amounts of crystalline quartz, which has been linked to the development of cancer.

Healthier skin. Over the years makeup has changed and they now contain some chemicals which are good for your skin. Anti-inflammatory and antibacterial help make make up safer and have been introduced recently. Antibacterial ingredients help get rid of acne and reduce redness. Many brands include vitamins and moisturizers that keep your skin looking good even after makeup is removed. Some foundations and moisturizers include SPF, which helps to avoid sun damage and possibly melanoma.

We are under the impression that we are improving ourselves with the look of makeup, but what we don't realize is that us and our children may be harmed by these cancer causing agents and oils. It should be pointed out that many companies are finding ways to remove the harmful ingredients in these product. Make sure you check the ingredients of products before you buy.
